Dr James Parsons

James has extensive experience in geophysical software development in the oil and gas industry. James first teamed up with Mark Smith for a 10 year period at Karoon Gas Ltd where he spearheaded the development and deployment of fault seal analysis on a wide range of oil and gas industry exploration and development projects around the world. As technical director of the now independent company, Quantiseal Pty Ltd,  James continues to enhance and extend the functionality of the Quantiseal Suite of applications.

Mr Mark A. Smith

(Bsc Geology)  Founder and non-operational shareholder

Mark is a geoscientist with over 35 years experience in the oil and gas industry, initially with BHP, then in a consulting company and now with Karoon Gas Ltd. Whilst experienced in all facets of oil and gas exploration, his primary geotechnical interest for the last twenty years has been fault seal analysis.

Running a consulting company for 10 years, he led analysis and research projects on fault seal calibration and prediction, providing important services to major companies (oil and gas and CCS). Whilst working on basin studies of Australia, Asia, North and South America, Mark had first-hand experience of the poor performance of quantitative seal and fault seal analysis tools that the industry was using.  This continues to be a major costly problem for operators, particularly in faulted and interbedded sequences.

Responding to these shortcomings, Mark wrote the first Quantiseal software program, subsequently partnering with James Parsons to improve and accelerate development and application of the software..
